The 1860s homestead, Tuhitarata, is set in a park-like setting of old English trees and formal gardens. Along with the elegant homestead, the grounds retain a number of outbuildings of significant historic interest, including charming cottages and the large beautifully restored barn.
The large historic, beautifully renovated barn built in the late 1860s, is regarded a perfect venue full of character and offers a wide range of facilities. Accommodating up to 200 people, the large two-storied barn, built at a similar time to the homestead, has been sensitively renovated to retain its character and is one of the most magnificent barn restorations in NZ. The second floor has been removed to expose the barn’s soaring sarked walls and exposed beams. The barn also features magnificent chandeliers juxtaposed against the original rustic interior, and views to the grounds, the magnificent native bush and beautiful farmland. Facilities include kitchen, wheelchair access, and outdoor paved areas. The barn is fully insulated and heated.
The barn is situated in beautiful park-like grounds with mature deciduous trees, spring bulbs and fantastic autumn colour. The picturesque location is ideal for an outdoor wedding ceremony. Wedding parties have access to the homestead’s large formal Italianate gardens for wedding party photos.
